As part of the ongoing efforts to include more creators and collaborators in this year’s iSummit, and showcase CC-related work from all over the world, the 2007 iSummit in Dubrovnik has an extra component – a mini film festival on Thursday June 14th, the night before the Summit opens, at Lazareti. While not all the films are CC licensed, they are all concerned with CC in some way, from Good Copy, Bad Copy, a Danish documentary about copyright and piracy, to The Strange Land, an animated film from South Korea, which was originally shown in an online indie film festival with other CC licensed films. All the films that will be screened were selected by iCommoners, from a list of nominations from all over the world.
So, if you find yourself in Dubrvonik the day before the Summit starts, come to Lazareti after the welcoming drinks, and before the concert, and get a taste of some good CC cinema. Below is some information about each film.
Good Copy, Bad Copy
Type: documentary
Directed by: Andreas Johnsen, Ralf Christensen, Henrik Moltke
Country of Origin: Denmark, 2007
Duration: 58 minutes
Good Copy, Bad Copy explores the pros and cons of copyright, piracy and new forms of cultural production. It takes us to Pittsburgh where "illegal" artist Girl Talk conjures pop anthems from hundreds of uncleared samples. In Nigeria, Nollywood is thriving with little or no distinction between original and copy, while in Northern Brazil, an economic food chain based on "piracy" has emerged around the Tecno Brega scene. In Stockholm, Pirate Party members rally for copyright and privacy issues at the Swedish elections, while in Washington, Dan Glickman reflects on the MPAAs battle against movie piracy, not least the Pirate Bay bust. Due to the licensing of some of the content, the film could not be CC licensed. But the creators are very keen to see it remixed.

How many of us can enjoy freedom and happiness facing numerous laws and judgments imposed on us by others? I wanted to say: let us be free from fear and shame"
