Thoughts on Buma/Stemra creative commons Pilot: Non-commercial use.

Consider this: Most of the exposure for "self published" art comes via non-profit outlets. I reckon very much more than most people that license their works with a creative commons licenses, be it an artist with a collection society or an artist not with one. In Europe i've performed music in some Non-profit places that provide entertainment. It seems that almost every large town or city has some form of non-profit entertainment. Mostly these places bring published entertainment rather than art from the community.

Right now artists are having to pay for a press kit. The most popular press kit system at the moment is attached to a network of venues. The artist has to pay to be connected to these venues. The artist pays the owner of the venue to listen to the music and the press kit company take half that money plus a membership of over 50 dollars a year. The artist is able to email this press... another thought: Making art commercially viable without a publisher is hard. Its seems that many artists are caught in a grey zone and need a home. Artists need a place to build their artistic resource and find support for what they do.

The idea of linking people/artists together through a "free culture press kit system" might be a good mission. The "press kit" could be linked... [ read ]

I'm thinking that a good possibility for the artist press kit might be to have a system where the fan is able to (through sites like jamendo, jamglue, ccmixtrr, simuze, magnitune, garage band, kompoz and the many many other sites that have incorporated the CC license into their system plus all the many many other forms of art that include photographers ,short film makers, poets,...
