Jimmy Wales popped by this afternoon to have a slice of cake and a cuppa coffee with the iCommons staff. He was in South Africa to attend the Open Sourcing Education meeting at the Shuttleworth Foundation, as well as the second of Heather and Jimmy's 50 greatest parties on Saturday night.

Among other things, we chatted about the Wikipedia Academy - "a project to increase the number of articles in South African languages other than English by running Wikipedia Academy workshops to teach people how to edit articles in Wikipedia at SA universities." If this succeeds - we could take on the world! Though (let me not get ahead of myself...) - much work is still to be done, so if you'd like to volunteer please join the Wikipedia Academy node, here! It promises to be a very fruitful project.

Thanks for stopping by Jimmy!

This is a fabulous initiative, and I am planning something of the same sort by getting the Wikipedia contributors in India to collaborate with NGOs and NPOs in India (starting with the State of Gujarat) to create awareness of the local language Wikipedia projects, which can be used as an effective medium of education and learning at school. We will take on the world! --Anirudh
