September Case Study Project Update
Cynthia Jimes, Half Moon Bay (United States) · 29/9/2007 02:03

The write up of the Free High School Science Texts (FHSST) case study report is nearing completion. The FHSST case study shows, among other things, that creating and sustaining OER is an iterative, experimental, and adaptive process that takes place within a continuously changing environment and shifting stakeholder needs, and that a culture of collaboration plays an important role in continuous improvement and the development of innovations in OER. The next stage of the project will present an initial framework and set of tools developed in part from the learnings of the FHSST study, which we hope can be used by other OER projects to assess their own practices and advancements, and to share information across OER projects globally. Both the report and the tools will be offered to the wider OER community in the coming weeks.

Next steps for ISKME include supporting a small group of OER projects to apply the tools and learnings internally. Specifically, ISKME will provide support and facilitation for six identified OER projects as they conduct their own case studies to share information and build capacity for data gathering and inquiry within their own projects.

We will continue to update the Case Study Wiki and this node, and invite you to monitor and make suggestions and comments along the way in our efforts to inform and facilitate wider participant engagement in this project over the coming months.

If you have any questions about OER case study project, please contact Cynthia Jimes at cynthia@iskme.org.

Hi Cynthia. Is FHSST's working relationship with ISKME now ostensibly over or will there be continued work with the team? It might be a good idea to invite their team leaders (and even one or two active volunteers) as participants on the node so that they can keep giving feedback or, even better, when the case study and framework are released to community, folks might be able to ask them direct questions on the forum? What do you think?

Hi Kerryn. Thanks for your questions. There will be continued work with the FHSST team in the sense that the other six projects will be working collaboratively across their projects, and we certainly want to draw on FHSST's expertise as they do so. Also, the FHSST team has been invited to the node...so yes, it would be great to get the community interacting directly.
