The Pan-Commonwealth Forum (PCF5) is for practitioners, researchers, planners and policy makers in the fields of open and distance learning and development. The forum will provide opportunities to share experience and expertise and contribute to future thinking about access to learning. The outcomes from the conference will be relevant across the world as a contribution towards the Millennium Development Goals .
The fifth conference is hosted by the Commonwealth of Learning in partnership with the University of London.
Learning for Development is the theme of the Commonwealth of Learning's 2006-2009 Plan. It addresses an agenda that includes the UN's Millennium Development Goals, the goals of Education for All (Dakar) and the Commonwealth's objectives of peace, democracy, equality and good governance. The Plan is based on the belief that increasing and improving human learning is
the key to fulfilling most aspects of the global development agenda.
PCF5 will concentrate on four key themes:
• Health
• Livelihoods
• Provision for children and young people
• Governance, conflict and social justice
Six cross-cutting aspects of the themes have been identified. Conference papers and sessions will address one or more of these within core theme discussions.
• Appropriate technologies
• Networks and resources for learner support
• Organisational development and leadership
• Innovation in curriculum and assessment
• Research into practice
• Global development
