Two articles in the first batch of articles loosely categorised as Local Heritage by the Local Contextualisers, provided an important insight into the notion of 'open' solutions to capturing, archiving, and storing traditional knowledge and culture. We assume that if we are working in the interests of preserving/ protecting TK that this is automatically a good thing. However the articles both describe how we need to look at context, belief, public interests of the community involved. We are cautioned that simply be providing a solution does not necessarily mean this is the right solution.
I think that it would be great to look critically and more deeply at current solutions to see if these really do meet the needs of TK and communities rather than assuming this to be the case - and see if these don't raise more questions rather than answers. |
