Hi all -

It was good to talk/meet you the other day. I've been talking to Prashant a bit and we thought it might be good to sketch out some ideas for the upcoming months or LC/GC (or a structure for the year-in-articles)... so that perhaps at the end of it we would have a flow of articles through the next 10 months that produced some sort of overall conclusion or perspective on the Indian context. I think it would be a really great way of learning about the other countries' contexts if we all sort of matched up and if anyone wanted to try and coordinate I think it would be great and there would be a lot to learn. We don't have a firm structure in mind and are flexible, but I am posting a suggestion of what it could look like below.

Briefly a structure I was thinking about for 10 months (Oct - July):

Months 1-3: Broad theoretical concepts:
What is the private? (e.g., how is it legally constructed in India/what is the public perception)
What is the public?
What is/are the commons?
- We could spend fewer months on this theoretical concepts section

Months 4-9: Specific Domains (to be chosen later perhaps?)
Culture
Media
Education/Academics
Piracy
Plagiarism
Pharmaceuticals
Agriculture
Organizations working on commons-related issues
Policy and government
International agreements, perspectives within the country
Information and MDBs
etc...

Month 10:
A conclusion: A wrap up of what we have learned over the last year - what is going on in India and how does this relate to other local contexts.

Hi Alli and Prashant
I think this is a very good idea indeed, although we would need to ensure that we had some time for the unexpected, or topical turn of events. But in all, I'm in favour of this idea - it would also be great to build the multi-media this way as well so that perhaps there is a loose multimedia 'narrative' at the end of the project.

A key change at iCommons

If you're not part of the iCommons mailing list, take a look at the letter that Heather Ford, Executive Director of iCommons, sent to the list yesterday:

Dear friends,

At the 2 August iCommons Board Meeting, the board decided to make some difficult but necessary changes at iCommons. It has become clear over the past months that our vision for iCommons is different from the... more
