The basic concept is to transform the node page into more of a showcase space for the node, similar to what we have now but with:
- A way to personalise the node page with logos and pictures, according to a basic template, and
- A URL dedicated to the space eg. icommons.org/localcontextglobalcommons etc etc
Here's a brainstorm of FACILITIES to add to the node showcase space:
- node blog
- a space for resources
- a calendar to display important dates (for events, milestones etc)
- a flickr feed to display photos of events/projects hosted by the node
- a registration form for events (we can offer a basic registration form to be included in this page if you are organising an event. )
Any other ideas? What other applications/facilities can be added to the node pages that would make YOUR node more accessible and effective for communicating about your projects?
We are also looking at a node back-end space for project planning: this is a separate forum discussion, please also check it out!

Hi Daniela, all of the new possible facilities sound great. When wanting to attach a PPT pres, I did miss a space for resources (attaching files) directly within the node. Another thing which could be good is to have a featured/related articles/resources section attached to a node, where people could point to external research reports, articles, documents, etc., that are relevant to the content of the node project. Or something along those lines. |

Hi Cynthia. Having a way to link resources to nodes is something we have been keen to implement. At the moment, the idea is to institute resource 'collections' - so that resources can be grouped together around a relevant topic. Node admins will be able to make a collection specific to their nodes, and this will immediately be published within the nodes. We are also hoping to reflected 'related articles' on node pages also.
But when you say external documents, these would not be hosted on icommons.org? This could be included as a 'related content' type of entry or section... At the moment the best solution would be to include these in node blogs, but we can think about this as another option, over and above the resources/articles connections...
Thanks for your comment!

I posted this in JC, yet here as well.
Hi JC,
* "Node Blogs" why not make it so that if you write a node blog you can publish this blog with other nodes. Often when i write a blog it relates to 2 or 3 of the nodes i have on the site. I figure as time goes on more people are going to publish blogs within nodes that relate to each other.
*"mail out from node admins" Have an update page that allows the node admin to send a message via email to all the people within the project. A monthly progress report. |

(1) Multiple administrators for a node
(2) Make nodes listed/searchable by name
(3) Put node announcements much higher on the page, left and high to be the first item examined rather than static content. |

A key change at iCommons
If you're not part of the iCommons mailing list, take a look at the letter that Heather Ford, Executive Director of iCommons, sent to the list yesterday:
Dear friends,
At the 2 August iCommons Board Meeting, the board decided to make some difficult but necessary changes at iCommons. It has become clear over the past months that our vision for iCommons is different from the... more
