Sick of writing demos and putting them in the snail-mail for producers and musicians to never listen to, I became interested in the idea of putting songs online for anybody to remix in any way they saw fit. To set some parameters I wrote the rules of the game, a manifesto detailing the nature of the project as a song-per-month 'calendar' of one year.

I immediately started sharing the songs on ccmixter which has been an invaluable resource. Of course, despite the anxiety of the mainstream music industry, musical creativity and exchange has exploded due to online licensing as provided by creative commons. But I have been constantly surprised and delighted not only by the number of remixes I've received, but also by the variety and outstanding quality of the music. I think this deserves wider attention, and I would like to be able to nurture the existing, growing community of remixers and listeners.

I currently have almost 100 remixes (and several videos) and three more songs to write. I intend to keep the site active and keep posting remixes after the first year is up, and will release an album of originals and remixes. I am also developing a live show, where I sing the project as a song cycle, with remixers joining me to collaborate on the music.
