OLPC and Recording studios
Jamison · Oslo (Norway) · 14/12/2007 08:49
Recording studios (that supported OLPC) might give artists the ability to license "part" of the content that they create in the studio to an OLPC remix music library. In one song there might 20 layers, splitting these layers up and making some available for remix seems like a do-able idea. Bringing a network of studios around the world that would bring different cultural music to OLPC would create awareness of OLPC and give artists the opportunity to give back, where appropriate.

Many professional artists are not able to give full songs to OLPC because of the rights organization (in Norway Tono) control their musical voice and an open license is in conflict with the contract they have signed with the rights organization (excluding the US ones BMI & ASCAP). Giving part (layer) of the song may not be such a problem.
