Preserving Audiovisual Archives
Costs, Benefits and Community Involvement
Images for the Future is a E 173 mio project to preserve and distribute the 20th century Dutch audiovisual heritage. In total 280,000 hours of material will be preserved. After a general presentation of the project this workshop will focus on the following topics:
1) the preservation of cultural heritage and the need and possibilities for community involvement 2) strategies to overcome copyright hindrances 3) the exchange of experiences in different countries regarding (1) and (2) 4) the cost and benefits analysis which was instrumental in getting the project images for the Future funded. Because subject (4) is a rather technical, financial subject, time spent will be short, mainly to see if a separate birds-of-a-feather session would be useful.
The aim of the workshop is the establishment of an iCommons node on preserving cultural heritage.
