One idea might be for facebook to create a press kit that only content licensed under CC could be uploaded to.
Similar to the press kit node on the Icommons site. http://icommons.org/nodes/artist-press-kit
People would be able to make demands for that press kit or join that idea/concept.

Please check out and maybe think about joining the Artist Press Kit node.

have also created some interesting ideas here that deal with the press kit concept.

I sent this email to this organization http://www.abetterworld.ca/ that is using sonic bids to improve the world.

Just wanted to let you know that using an organization like sonic
bids to promote your cause is not ecological. They talk half of the
money that the artist pays for submission, do you think the habits of
those people that that money goes to improves the ecology of the
world ? I think every employee at sonic bids has a higher emissions
rate than your average unemployed person in Canada. If they were
really into environmental solutions they would give the 50 percent of
what they got from your submission to an environmental cause that

At the moment artist are having to pay for a press kits. The most popular press kit system at the moment is attached to a network of venues. The artist has to pay to be connected to these venues. The artist pays the owner of the venue to listen to the music and the press kit company take half that money plus a membership of over 50 dollars a year. The artist is also able to email this press kit to any venue from within the press kit. A video link as well as a music is on the music press kit. It could also be for photographers

At the moment due to the blanket license system that the collection societies have in the market place, artists are being encouraged to perform covers. Artists are forced to plat mostly covers, the venues demand this. Collection societies are promoting the reuses of popular material, this has had a major impact on culture. A press kit that was aimed at artists that only wanted to perform their original works in a space might be embraced by many venues. Its only when the artist starts to sing songs that he did not write that the collection society has rights to that venues space.

Many art galleries would be happy to connect to this press kit system. Many small cafes that wanted a night with an original art each week would support this. A stage within a festival might be promoted.

The conditions could be that the artist would have to have a set of original music licensed under cc. The venue would be able to listen to the music and watch a live show. Artist could mail the press kit system out to any venue or the venue may attach a regular event to the system. Also artists would be able to sing songs of artists that had put their material into the press kit system. Artists would be able to collaborate through the press kit. The press kit system could apply to all forms of art, not just music.

As time goes on I'll add more to this. You can read more info on the way collection societies work at this link www.OPTapra.Net

map out free culture. say no to karaoke

The idea i have is to map out non-profit spaces and at the same time talk about aspects of free culture to people in these entertainment places/spaces. Many within the free-culture process reckon that buacracy can bring change, i reckon if a couple of artists can be paid to do what they love (within the limitations of a free-culture like www.freebeer.org ), this can change things. Icommons focus is to bring the creators of platforms together, it seems the users of the license are left in the cold while educators argue (sing karaoke) about how to administer a system they have no experience with. (my opinion)

Eerko on flickr.com 1 week to go until iSummit registration closes

Well, believe it or not but the iSummit is only 14 days away, which means that the staff in South Africa and Japan need to start tallying numbers and assigning hotel rooms to all those who intend on coming to the iSummit in Sapporo. This means that registration is closing on Monday 21 July, at 4pm GMT + 2, giving you one week to login to the system to book your seat at the event... more
